Cropping Audio

WireTap Studio's lossless and non-destructive editor can crop a recording or crop to a selection with no loss of quality or audio to the original recording.

Easily edited fades are automatically added to edited portions of audio to smooth transitions. For more on fades, see Using Fades in the Editor

To Crop to a portion of audio:

WireTap Studio can either crop to a selected portion of audio, or the beginning and end crop markers can be adjusted and the recording cropped to the new length.

  1. Select a recording in the library and click on the Edit button, or simply double click the file.
    NOTE: To edit a file not recorded by WireTap Studio go to the File menu and select Open...
  2. Click and drag to select a portion of audio.

  4. Click on the Crop To Selection button.

    The recording will be cropped to the selected portion or the new beginning and end times, and fades will be added to the beginning and end.

    Drag the fade markers back and forth to increase or decrease the length of the fade.

    The audio cropped out will be displayed in gray to show that it has been cropped but is still there should you ever want it back.

  6. To undo the edit, press the command z keys or go to the Edit menu to Undo.
  7. The cropped audio will be replaced and the fades adjusted.

  8. To save your changes, either go to the File menu to Save, press command s, or close the recording and click on Save in the dialog presented.

Or use the crop markers below the waveform to set the beginning and end of the audio.

  1. Select a recording in the library and click on the Edit button, or simply double click the file.

  3. Drag the crop marker on the left to set the beginning of the cropped audio, and the crop marker on the right to set the end of the cropped audio.
  4. To undo the edit, drag the crop markers to their original positions, press the command z keys or go to the Edit menu to Undo.
  5. The cropped audio will be replaced and the fades adjusted.

  6. To save your changes, either go to the File menu to Save, press command s, or close the recording and click on Save in the dialog presented.
